Copyright infringement would cost dearly to a person as some strict rules are coming to discourage internet users from illegal downloading. Services of internet users can be terminated for six months besides they are entitled to pay $15,000 in reparation in case of violation of copyright act.
Minister for Justice Simon Power today released proposed measured for replacing the controversial Section 92A of the Copyright Act1994. The original law provides free hand for closing the website on even the accusation of breach of copyright. But it created a large scale hue and cry making the government rethink on the law.
The proposed measures would allow copyright holder to approach Internet Service Provider against the violators of the copyright. The offender is entitled to a penalty of up to $15,000 at the Copyright Tribunal if he continues with his exercise even after three notices.
Mr. Power said, "The procedure will both educate and warn file-sharers that unauthorized sharing of copyright works is illegal, and in turn stop a large proportion of illegal file sharing."
