Contention Triggered as Plans for Cancer Care Centre in North Ireland BlastedThe recent announcement made by Health Minister to freeze the idea of a proposed set up of radiotherapy center in Londonderry because of the non-availability of appropriate funds has sparked outrage among the masses as many feel that the government is liable to fulfill the promises made.

It is learnt that Mr. Michael McGimpsey recently made a formal announcement that the establishment of the promised cancer treatment centre at Altnagelvin Hospital cannot see the light of the day as the department has no funds to back it.

The statement has invited a lot of criticism and contention with many feeling that they are tricked and cheated.

It was previously reported that the people in the north-west are in the dire need of a radiotherapy center as there was none in the vicinity.

With a promised cancer care center, there was a ray of hope that the people will need not to travel the distance of 200-mile for diagnosis anymore.

But, now the promises are shattered and so are the hopes. It is speculated that the cancer cases can observe a sharp spur in the near future because of the inadequate care services.

Following this, the Chairman of the Stormont health committee, Jim Wells, stated: “McGimpsey is people for his utter failure to tackle waste and inefficiencies and is the most incompetent minister”.
