Swine flu scar has raised its ugly head in India. As per the reports, the ministry of health and family welfare has confirmed two cases of swine flu in Delhi last week.
Though no causality is reported so far, the health authorities have alerted all the concerned departments to stringently take precautionary measures to avoid any outbreak. Responding to the dithering situation, Delhi Health Minister, A K Walia reportedly claimed that they have called an urgent meeting to ponder over the severity of the situation.
If statistics are to be believed, over 11,000 cases have been confirmed by the health department since May 2009 and 150 have died due to the attack of deadly H1N1 virus.
Citing the concern over the swine flu cases, Walia confirmed the presence of H1N1 virus and claimed that the moderate temperature and humidity level of India is highly conducive for the deadly virus to spread across the region.
Moreover, Debashish Bhattacharya, Nodal Officer for the disease in the capital, has appealed people to maintain calm as the situation is under control and assured that the department is well equipped with medications to combat the threat of swine flu.
Meanwhile, the UK Influenza Pandemic Preparedness Strategy 2011 has warned people about the potential impact of H1N1 virus which has killed 457 people in Britain between June 200 and March 2010.
