The H1N1 swine flu pandemic caused numerous deaths. The swine flu had caused a fear around the world. People were requested by the authorities to get vaccinated.
There was huge shortage of vaccine in most of the poor countries. Due to the shortage most the people could not get vaccinated.
In an investigation done by the World Health Organization (WHO) it was confirmed that the shortage was due to the pharmaceutical industry and drug regulators. The organization has released a report on Monday claiming that the delay in distribution by the pharmaceutical industry and drug regulators has caused the shortage.
The World Health Organization (WHO) was disappointed with the results as they had worked extremely hard to make sure that the vaccines donated by the rich countries reach the people in the poor countries. The registration of the vaccine had to be done by the local authorities. Due to the delay in this process the people were not able to get vaccinated.
The WHO had distributed vaccines among 77 countries. There were a total of 78 million doses distributed. There is a problem in the entire system. Due to this problem, numerous people did not get the deserved vaccine. The authorities should take the required steps to make sure such problems are not repeated.
