Heart failure affects more than five million people in America. The condition occurs when the heart has difficulty pumping blood throughout the body. The symptoms include fatigue and shortness of breath.

A recent report has revealed that majority of the heart failure incidences occur among people over the age of 65 but the clinical trials studying the cardiovascular disease exclude older patients.

The report has claimed that 43% of the 251 heart failure trials evaluated by the Cherubini and his collaborators excluded the participation of older people without any proper justification. In response to the report Cherubini, said that elderly are difficult to include in clinical trials because they suffer from a large number of many problems.

A large number of clinical trials exclude older patients if they suffer from multiple diseases or take multiple medications. A recent report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has found that more than 75% of the Americans over the age of 60 are excluded from the trials because they take more than one drug.
