The Roku XD streaming player finally made its way to a number of brick & mortar stores, including Best Buy, BJ’s Wholesale Club, RadioShack and Fry’s Electronics. Previously the popular media player was available only online.
Roku announced that customers who would visit Best Buy and other high-street retailers would see the Roku XD on the shelves.
Announcing the player’s availability via brick & mortal stores, Roku said, "Customers can now grab a Roku off the shelf at Best Buy, take it home and be up and running, enjoying their favorite TV show, movie, music or sports team in just a matter of minutes."
The $79.99-Roku XD offers 1080p HD streaming support, 802.11n WiFi and instant-replay remote. The player allows users to stream music, video and social media content to their TV sets from sites like Netflix, Hulu, Plus, Amazon, Pandora and social-networking site Facebook.
Earlier this year, the company claimed that it had sold around 1 million units of the media player through 2010.
Online, Roku has been offering three different version of the media player, viz. the Roku HD, the Roku XD and the Roku XDS. The Roku XDS is the top-of-the-line media player that costs $99.99, while Roku HD sells for $59.99.
