Web search firm Google on Thursday posted a special doodle on its homepage to mark the 200th birth anniversary of German chemist Robert Bunsen.
The animated doodle featured a complex lab setup. There was a Bunsen burner and several beakers filled with bubbling liquids. The doodle was interactive. Users were able to height & heat of the burner’s flame with the help of mouse.
Bunsen burner was named after the famous chemist’s name but it should be noted here that the burner was actually invented by a University of Heidelburg technician, Peter Desaga. Robert Bunsen only improved the burner.
Bunsen was born on 31st of March, 1811 in Germany. He earned a doctorate at the age 19 and traveled extensively throughout Europe. Then, he started teaching at the university in Gottingen, Germany.
In the 1860s, Bunsen discovered two new elements, viz. Cesium and Rubidium. Cesium is widely used in atomic clocks, while Rubidium is a one of the way to produce purple fireworks.
This was not the first time when Google posted a doodle. The search engine often post such doodles to mark big days.
