Nintendo releases UK sales figure for its recently launched 3DS gaming console, claiming that it sold 113,000 units of the handheld over the launch weekend.
Nintendo’s previous best sales figure was reported by the Wii, which sold 106,000 units over the opening weekend.
However, the Nintendo 3DS sales could not reach the predictions made by the manufacturer as well as analysts. Ahead of the device’s launch, Nintendo UK’s marketing manager James Honeywell had predicted that the device would sell comfortably over 1,50,000 units over the launch weekend.
Across Europe, the company shifted 303,000 units of the Nintendo 3DS.
Laurent Fischer, Nintendo of Europe's MD of Marketing & PR at Nintendo Europe, said, “With the built-in pick-up-and-play Face Raiders game and StreetPass feature adding new dimensions to the already diverse line-up of launch titles, Nintendo 3DS has struck a chord with gamers old and new.”
The Nintendo 3DS features 3D technology that allows users to play and enjoy games in real 3D with naked eyes. The device comes equipped with two screens, motion-sensors and more memory than its predecessor.
