Scientists from Netherlands, after extensive research, have revealed that foods can be "engineered" in order to help them release aromas which are satiating, and give the feeling of being full, when they are chewed, thereby coming up with a method to fight obesity.
Such modified foods, as per the study authors, would help fight the rapidly spreading global epidemic of obesity more effectively, with aromas that satisfy hunger and prevent people from indulging in over-eating.
The findings are an anti-thesis of the general experience, wherein aromas of foods are linked to increased hunger pangs.
Lead researcher Rianne Ruijschop and colleagues have noted that scientists have long struggled to develop foods that boost the feeling of fullness, thereby discouraging over-eating, but these researches had only looked at the effects of foods once they have been swallowed and lie in the stomach.
This is for the first time that a research has actually expanded its domain and tried to look at ways to curb over-eating during the chewing phase itself.
"The next challenge is to implement these concepts into real food products", notes the study.
