Robin Antonick, the creator of the first version of the widely acclaimed Madden NFL Football franchise, has dragged Electronic Arts (EA) to court, claiming he was not given his part of profits from the series.
In 1986, Antonick had signed a contract with EA that entitles him to royalties on derivative versions of the Madden NFL Football game, the lawsuit claims.
The computer programmer claims that he lately became to know that EA had continued the series by deriving from the original game created by him.
The lawsuit filed in a California court states, “Instead, according to recent statements by Electronic Arts founder Trip Hawkins, the current generation of software apparently derived from software developed by Antonick.”
According to Antonick’s lawyer, the company has not made royalty payment since 1992.
The suit requests the court to help the programmer recover tens of millions of owed royalties. In addition, the suit asks for disgorgement of all profits from the sale of the title because of the result of allegedly deceptive behavior.
Madden NFL Football franchise has so far generated more than $4 billion in profits.
