Google celebrates 119th anniversary of Ice Cream Sundae

Google celebratesWeb search engine Google on Sunday posted a mouth-watering Doodle on its homepage to mark the 119th anniversary of the Ice Cream Sundae.

The sundae is an ice cream dessert usually featuring ice cream, syrup and toppings such as chopped nuts and cherry.

The origin of the sundae is dubious. But, it is widely believed to have been produced in 1892 when New York soda fountain owner Chester Platt served the dish to church minister John Scott.

However, some people are of the view that the Sundae was invented following a collision of an ice cream truck with a syrup tanker.

Gradually, the ice cream was named after the Sabbath and served every Sunday in a range of flavors.

Google often posts Doodle to mark the big days, such as the birthdays of legends and great inventions. On 1st April, it marked April Fools' Day with its Gmail Motion gag. Earlier on Thursday, it posted a Doodle to mark the 200th birth anniversary of German chemist Robert Bunsen.

However, Ice Cream Sundae Doodle triggered speculation that Google's upcoming operating system, codenamed "Ice Cream", may come soon.
