A recent report on diabetes has revealed that more than 560,000 people are suffering from diabetes in Quebec. The figure constitutes 7.2% of general population. Even young kids are diagnosed with Type II diabetes in Quebec. The number of cases of diabetes has almost doubled Quebec in the past decade.
The chronic illness costs around $2.2 billion directly and indirectly to the health industry. Type II diabetes occurs when the pancreas does not produce enough insulin to meet the body’s needs. No potential cure of the disease is known yet. Doctors advise the patients to take healthy diet and exercise regularly in order to prevent the disease. Unhealthy lifestyle is said to be the main cause of the disease.
Type II diabetes is not a cardiovascular disease but the according to the statistics of American Heart Association, at least 65% of people with diabetes die of some form of heart disease or stroke.
The health-care system of Canada is required to take appropriate action in order to control the epidemic. The government is also required to focus on diabetes to help thousands of sufferers.
