Chipmaker has rolled out a series of new Xeon processors which will are expected strengthen the company’s position rival manufacturers.
The E7, which has been designed for all server chips, will target data centers. The new range supports DDR3 memory of up to 2TB. It also supports low voltage DIMM modules.
The E7-8870 model, which is at the top of the range, is clocked at 2.4GHz with 30MB cache, 10 Cores and a TDP of 130W. It also supports Intel's Turbo Boost as well as Hyper Threading.
The E7-8870 is also the most expensive in the range with a price tag of $4616.
At the end of series of new products is the Xeon E3, which has a high starting clock speed, from 2.2GHz to 3.5GHz.
The E3 range is designed to meet requirements of single-core servers & workstations.
The TDP E3-1260L features four cores and a TDP of 45W, while the E3-1220L comes equipped with two cache and a TDP of only 20W. All Xeon E3 chips that have a 5 at the end of its designation have integrated graphics controller in the package.
