SA Organ Donor Foundation Urges South Africans to Donate Organs

The SA Organ Donation has urged the South Africans to donate organs and save the lives of thousands of people who are waiting for organ transplants. A single donor can give a new life to several different people and restore the vision of two more people.

At present, more than 3,500 people are waiting for organ transplants across South Africa. Many of the patients die after waiting for the transplants. Every day more people are added to the waiting list.

Anyone can be an organ donor and there is no charge to sign-up. Organs that can be donated include kidneys, liver, lungs, heart and pancreas. Other than these organs, tissues such as corneas, heart valves, skin and bone can also be donated.

Organ transplant can change the life of many patients. They can lead a healthy and long life after the transplants. They would be able to contribute to general health and well-being of their families, communities and society as a whole.

Linda Peel, Executive Director of the Organ Donor Foundation, said that as an organ donor, it is possible for everyone to help to build a healthy world.
