The tug-of-war between US media firm Viacom and cable TV provider Time Warner over iPad TV streaming is unlikely to come to an end in the near future as the two parties took the issue to court.
Viacom are opposing Time Warner’s move to distribute TV contents to the iPad, claiming Viacom has no right to distribute TV contents over unconventional media such as iPad.
Viacom argues that Time Warner, the second-largest cable company in the US, should pay more for the privilege. On the other hand, Time Warner claims that a deal already in place gives it the right to distribute TV shows using a software app designed for the iPad.
Marc Lawrence-Apfelbaum, Time Warner Cable general counsel, said that the company has the right to allow customers view the programs in their home without artificial restrictions on the screens they can use to do so.
The iPad app in question, TWCableTV, which allows iPad users to watch cable shows on the Apple tablet has so far been downloaded more than 360,000 times since its launch on 15th of March.
