In a rare skin condition, 13-year old Marc Grey was told not to shave by a General Practitioner. He was told by his school authorities to get rid of the moustache that had grown, because he did not have a shave as told by the doctor.
He suffers from “Barber’s Itch” and this is the reason he was asked not to shave by the Doctor. This is hereditary condition that he and his siblings are affected by.
The school authorities however did not buy this and were of the view that he was breaching school rules by not shaving.
This went on to become a more serious issue when the kid was apparently mocked at by the school authorities as well as the fellow students. The father of the child, Peter was of the view that he was going to make a court appeal and take the matter further.
It all actually started when the couple’s other son; Ryan had been expelled from the school for the similar reason. The parents had a tough time trying to convince the school authorities that it is due to this medical condition that their children are not allowed to shave. The couple has now shifted all their kids to the Blyth Community College. There is being an investigation conducted on the matter by the education ombudsman.
