Global Fund Facing Cuts in Funding for Global Health Problems

Global FundGlobal fund is facing cuts in funding for major health problems such as AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria. The main reason behind the cuts is that many donors have decided to suspend aid to the organization. The amount of suspension is about $180 million.

The Chief of Global funds, Michel Kazatchkine, said that the suspension of funds could slow down the efforts to fight HIV/AIDS.

Germany, Denmark, and Spain have suspended their financial aids to Geneva-based fund following the news that the funds were misused. The Global Fund has revealed that 34 million is unaccounted in four countries including Djibouti, Mali, Mauritania and Zambia. These funds accounts for about a quarter of international financing to fight HIV and AIDS .

The global funds have suspended the payments to these countries and have also set up an independent panel to review the financial controls.

AIDS is the biggest epidemic in the history of world and has affected millions of people. Adequate funding is very important for these countries so that the global problem of HIV/AIDS could be solved.
