Passive smoking is equally harmful for health as active smoking. Second-hand cigarette smoke leads to a number of health consequences among people. The report of World Health Organization (WHO) has revealed that it claims the lives of 6, 00,000 non-smokers across the globe, every year.
Experts have urged that smoking should be banned at public places because even the non-smokers share same community park, playground and other places. Non-smokers are helpless against the multiple exposures to toxic second-hand cigarette smoke as they visit these crowded places ever day.
Cigarette smoking is also one of the leading causes of preventable deaths worldwide. There are many health risks associated with social and occasional smoking. These include heart disease due to high blood pressure and cholesterol-clogged arteries, weakened aorta, premature death from cardiovascular disease, cancers and many others. Smoking affects the overall quality of life.
Ban on smoking is a life-saving matter. Experts also appealed the authorities to prohibit smoking while walking, banning smoking at traffic junctions and pedestrian crossings. Authorities must take appropriate actions against the violators of the law.
