Australia’s mental health system is facing lack of funding from the government. Experts believe that a significant amount of funding is required to overcome the mental health crisis in this country.
It has been estimated that an extra $2.5 billion over four years and 3.5 billion over the next five years are required to fulfill the demands of mental health care across Australia. There is a need of support from the governments, and by the society as a whole, in terms of addressing mental illness.
It involves providing great help, support and care to those with mental health problems and intellectual disabilities and their families.
According to a National Survey of Mental Health and Wellbeing conducted by the Australian Bureau of Statistics, the people of the country are affected by a number of disorders, including anxiety disorders and post-traumatic stress disorder. Such types of mental problems have increased the suicide rate in the country.
A primary health care system is required to improve the mental health care. Training of doctors and nurses is also required to deal with mental disorders.
