Need to Stop the Spread of HIV: Researchers

HIVRecently, the researchers working on HIV have shown that ART reduces the probability to pass HIV infection to another person. Moreover, it dramatically lowers the virus, if not eliminating it.

Clinicians have recommended that antiretroviral therapy should be initiated to all the HIV-positive patients. Any delay in the treatment could damage the major organs of the patients and could lead to poorer outcomes for patients.

The researchers predicted that with just a single treatment for people in care policy, new HIV infections among MSM would drop by 60% in five years

It is believed that the primary reason HIV patients should start antiretroviral therapy upon diagnosis is that they will experience better health and will have a longer life span than if they had waited.

Meanwhile, a strategic conference featuring HIV/Aids organizations and traditional chiefs in Southern Africa was held in Johannesburg, pledging to fight the spread of HIV in their communities.

The three-day meeting was held under the theme "Unleashing the Power of Traditional Leadership in HIV Prevention in Africa: Leaders committed to Zero New Infections, Zero Stigma and Zero Mother to Child Transmission" and was the first of its kind in the region.
