Doctors are again in trouble over treatments, as a doctor from Paragon Medical Centre was previously condemned for publishing misleading advertisement.
In November 2010, the Singapore Medical Council (SMC) slapped a fine of $10,000 on Dr. Wong Yek Meng, a gynaecologist, 63, who was offering procedures to patients which were not proven medically.
Dr. Weng was also fined $24,000 for sending patient samples to non-accredited laboratories in foreign countries in May last.
According to SMC, it has been revealed that Dr. Weng offers the face treatments, chelation, and detoxification for heavy metals, in his own clinic "Clinique Suisse".
The disciplinary committee found that the procedures, which were performed in "Clinique Suisse", were not acceptable for medical treatment. Chelation has not been proved medically as a treatment for detoxification in the absence of confirmed toxicity.
The offence has been highlighted by the Ministry of Health in September 2007, and this is the fourth time that SMC had condemned a gynaecologist.
Dr. Weng has to give in written that he will not repeat the offence and he will also have to bear the cost of the committed offence.
