Type O Virus Outbreak Alert for Pig FarmsDemarking the initial warning of virus outbreak, the government has issued a fresh report on the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease sending warning signals in the society.

Moreover, there are confirmed reports that six pigs were identified with mysterious symptoms of poor appetite and wound in their hooves. Following a proper diagnosis, the cases were confirmed with virus of Type O, resulting in culling of the infected cases and subsequently, ring fencing of the questioned farm and adjoining area.

Responding to the news of new outbreak, the Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Ministry claimed, “The owner of a pig farm in Yeongcheon, North Gyeongsang Province, reported suspicious symptoms of his pigs to the government yesterday and a test found that they were infected with foot-and-mouth disease”.

As per reports, the culled pigs were given vaccination on Feb. 6 and 23, but they were diagnosed with the deadly virus after a 2-week antibody development period.

Defending the nationwide vaccination campaign, ministry sources claimed that there are many factors, including insufficient amount of vaccines, bent needles, significantly lowered immunity of pigs, and a large amount of viruses which led to infection in pigs.

Meanwhile, the Agriculture Ministry has appealed to speed up the management of virus outbreak across the cities to avert dire consequences of the epidemic.
