Osteoporosis is one of the most common types of bone disease, with loss of bone density up to a significant extent and the sufferers are more likely to have a hip, wrist or vertebral fractures.
A recent research corroborates the study of the Chinese and the Western scientists that green tea is good for health and regular intake may decrease the risk of osteoporosis and many other illnesses.
Approximately, 368 women, of the age 65 or above, were analyzed on the parameters of lifestyle and it was observed that out of 46.7% tea drinkers only 28 women were diagnosed with osteoporosis, relatively less percentage, as compared to those who hardly had tea, reported the survey, conducted by the National Cheng Kung University Hospital.
During the course of the study, it was observed that some elements in green tea such as polyphenol and tannin compensate the effects of caffeine, hence resist the development of the disease osteoporosis.
A member of the research team, Dr. Chang Yin- fan, said that the fluoride accounts for the loss of bone mass whereas flavonoid improves bone mass in addition to other two ingredients of green tea, polyphenol and tannin.
