Apple has signed a contract with a third supplier of touchscreen sensors in order to meet soaring demand for its iPad 2, a report published by Bloomberg claims.
Taiwan-based touchscreen makers TPK and Wintek have already been supplying touch panel displays to Apple, but the overpowering demand for the iPad 2 forced Apple to sign new contract with Chimei Innolux Corp.
A spokesperson for Chimei Innolux said they expected to offer touchscreen sensors to some "major customers" but declined to confirm a deal with Apple.
According to Bloomberg, Foxconn Technology Group’s partner firm Chimei Innolux will begin supplying touchscreen sensors for Apple’s iPad 2 from May this year.
The addition of Chimei Innolux's services is expected to help Apple slash shipping times for all of its iPad 2 models. Currently, it takes two to three weeks for iPads to reach their destinations.
Chimei Innolux Corp. was created previous year by merging Foxconn’s Innolux Display Co., TPO Displays Corp. and Chi Mei Optoelectronics Corp.
