Cases of Irritable Bowel Syndrome on the Rise

Cases of Irritable Bowel Syndrome on the RiseIt has been reported that the number of people suffering from Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is increasing significantly. The disorder is related to gastrointestinal tract and main symptoms include diarrhea, stomach cramps and bloating.

Dr. Anton Emmanuel of the Gut Health Charity CORE says that the number of people diagnosed with digestive disorders or IBS is increasing because more people are becoming aware of the symptoms of the disease and are taking them seriously.

Experts claim that IBS could be prevented by the intake of a nutritious diet and adopting a healthy lifestyle. Peter Whorwell, Professor of Medicine at Wythenshawe Hospital in Manchester and a leading authority on IBS, said that most of the patients are advised to include more fiber and bran in the diet but it is helpful in some cases and not in all.

Instead of fiber and bran, doctors advise the patients to eat white bread, white pasta, biscuits and cream crackers or anything made up of refined white flour because it do not contain rough fiber.

Patients of IBS are also advised to avoid taking common painkillers such as codeine and morphine because they may cause constipation or affect the digestive system.
