Fish is Good for Brain

Fish is Good for BrainResearchers, in a study, have revealed that fish is good for the development of brain. It has been unveiled that the omega-3 fatty acids found in oily fish like salmon and herring can play a vital role in both development and maintenance of the brain and nerves.

The experts have advised pregnant women and infants to have fish, as from it they will get additional amount of long-chain fats. Moreover, these fats play a critical role in cognitive and visual development during early life.

Studies have also suggested that higher consumption of certain omega-3 fatty acids may reduce the risk of depression among adults.

Although the study did not have enough women to investigate if fish oil consumption resulted in a lower diagnosable postpartum depression, women in the treatment group had significantly lower total postpartum depression screening scale scores.

It is felt that large-scale intervention studies will be needed to better understand the mechanisms and magnitude by which fish oil consumption can improve postpartum mental health, women would be wise to eat at least a serving of high-omega-3 fish 2-3 days per week. Although fish oil supplements may be more acceptable to some women, the real thing is clearly the more nutritious option as a serving of fish is also rich in protein and mineral.
