Cluttered Information Stimulates Memory Lapse in Old People, Says Study

A recent study has claimed that old age people have the proclivity to forget things as they are bungled up with too many details. As per the report, a team of Concordia University has observed a significant lapse of memory in old age people when they were subjected to cumbersome task.

For the study, the team roped in 60 people comprising people of age 23 and 67 years to put them through a litany of task orientated stages in order to analyze their grasping power.

The team observed that old age people struggled to recall the previous task performed as compared to the younger people, who successfully managed to scan the information in their mind.

Deciphering the preliminary finding of the study, Mervin Blair, first author and a PhD student in Concordia's Department of Psychology and a member at the Centre for Research in Human Development, claimed, “Poor inhibition predicted a decline in the recall component of working memory and it also predicted decline in the processing component of working memory".

Empathizing with the condition of old age people, Blair recommended mind relaxation therapy for the aged people so that the acute problem of weak memory could be suitably addressed.
