According to a recent study, it has been revealed that it may be the eating habits of a woman during pregnancy that determines whether or not the child will be obese. Pregnant women are constantly told how to take care of their diet and lifestyle.
They are reminded time and time again that they should eat nutritious food and never overeat. They are told to give up evils like drinking and smoking.
In a startling revelation, it was said that a child can be put to the risk of obesity if the mother is too conscious and has low-carb diet.
This is due to the genetic variations that take place in the body while pregnancy if the mother eats food with low carbs; the child is put to a risk of obesity in the age of 6 to 9. These genetic changes are known as epigenetic changes and can determine a lot about the child.
Keith Godfrey, a Professor at the University of Southampton, said the finding accounts for a quarter of the difference "in the fatness of children six to nine years later”. The study is of the view that the effect was "considerably greater" than the weight at the time of birth and it did not depend on what the mother weighed.
