Filipinos children face many problems while going to school, some of them have to walk about five miles while others have to swim to school.
Last year, a Manila resident, Jay Jaboneta, was shocked to know that kids swim half a mile to get to school on the mainland. He decides to do something which could make it easy for kids to go to school.
He launched a campaign ”Fund for Little Kids” to gather money for kids. The event raised 70,000 pesos within one week after the vent was launched. With the help of a local humanitarian organization, Jay and Josiah decided to spend the funds in building a boat so the children could get to school safely each day.
After five months, Zamboanga community was provided with a bright yellow boat named ‘Bagong Pag-asa’ which means “New Hope”. The boat takes the children to school free of cost during the week. Adults and seaweed farmers of the community can also use the boat to take their products into town. They are charged a small fee for the boat rise to be used for boat maintenance.
The new boat has become very popular among kids and is expected to improve their education, safety and morale.
