Rise in Passenger Numbers Recorded by Virgin Blue for November

November has been a good month for Virgin Blue as the carrier recorded a marginal rise in traveler numbers, despite the fact that there was some weakness across its domestic routes.

For the month of November, the carrier transported 1.33 million domestic travelers, which is still a 3.1% decline compared to the number recorded for the same period last year, as was confirmed by the airline on Wednesday.

Domestic "Available Seat Kilometer", which is an apt measure of capacity, was pulled down by 7.1% for the month as compared to last year, while the revenue load factor managed to record a rise of 3.5 points to 84.6%.

A strong increase in the number of international travelers, on the other hand, helped the group post a slight 0.5% overall hike in percentage.

On international routes, excluding those which are currently operated by Polynesian Blue, Virgin Blue registered a 30.9% hike in traveler numbers for November, as compared to the same period for the previous year.

"We are currently profitable again and we expect, if the market does nothing other than at least stay where it is, that we will be able to maintain that guidance through to June 30", said Virgin Blue Chief Executive Brett Godfrey.
