Breastfeeding: A Healthy Choice for Babies

A Healthy Choice for BabiesWayne County Public Health has said that breastfeeding is a healthy choice for babies. Mothers are advised to breastfeed their babies instead of using bottles.

Breastfeeding is healthy for babies in many different ways. Mother's milk provides all the nutrients which a baby needs to be healthy for the first six months of life. Breast milk has the right amount of fat, sugar, water and protein that a baby needs. The milk is even easier for the babies to digest.

Health experts claim that breastfed babies are less likely to get affected by ear infections, cold, flu or meningitis. Such babies are not required to visit the doctors regularly. Mothers who breastfeed are suggested not to use caffeine, alcohol and cigarettes. These products contain harmful substances which could pass into breast milk and ultimately to the child.

Mothers are also advised to take the recommendation of doctors before breastfeeding if they are taking some medications. In case the mothers have any problems in breastfeeding, they can visit the midwives or health visitors.

Despite all the health benefits of breastfeeding, it also helps in strengthening the bond between mother and baby.
