YMCA Encouraging Parents and Kids to Take Part in Outdoor Activities

healthyA recent study sponsored by the YMCA analyzed approximately 1,630 parents living with the children of ages 5 to 10 and revealed that most of the American families are not leading a healthy life.

The Director of chronic disease prevention, Dr. Matt Longjohn, marked no or less exercise, technology and money as the reasons for the ignorance of health. In a strict economy environment, the parents are putting on hold the extracurricular activities for their kids; moreover, they do not even corroborate the physical activities even if the kids are spending more time on the television or computer.

During the course of the survey, 42% parents blamed the television, cell phones, and computer games for not practicing the healthy lifestyle by their children and 38% of the parents reported costly extracurricular activities as a hurdle.

However, 90% of the subject parents have credited themselves for providing a feasible home environment for children who are self motivated to ignore the healthy habits.

The parents were suggested to allocate children a slice of time for watching the television or playing games on the computer and organizing some outdoor trips for them on regular basis.
