Facebook, the world’s most popular website, has introduced a new “Send” button- a new way for users to share content with just a few selected people.
The new feature takes sharing to a more private level. While the “Like” button shares a link, by default, with everyone, the new “Send” button shares links with selected sets of friends and Facebook groups. In addition, it also shares links with non-Facebook people via e-mails.
Once the user starts typing the name of a Facebook friend/Group, he/she will see a list of possible recipients. He/she can add multiple names, and can add even e-mail addresses. Then, the users can add a message, which will be sent to recipients’ inboxes without showing up on your wall.
Thus, the “Send” button, which websites can embed alongside or in place of the “Like” button, works just like a simple messaging system.
The Washington Post already embedded Facebook’s “Send” button to its site to allow users to share news via social media.
Visitors to the Washington Post can now send content straight to selected people or small groups of friends from an article/blog where they can also recommend a news story to all of their friends on the social networking site.
