Friendster, once dominant social network, has suggested its users to back up their photos, comments, blogs and groups as the content would be deleted during a massive overhaul on May 31.
The company notified its users via an email, stating that it would launch a "new & improved" site that would not include all the content stored on the existing site.
The new site would include users’ current accounts but other content such as messages, blogs and photos would be deleted. Anything that users want to keep can be retrieved until the end of May.
Friendster users have been provided with an exporter app that can be used to download the desired content or shift it to another social networking site.
Commenting on its upcoming site, Friendster said, “Our improved site is designed to create new profiles that allow you to connect differently with people and do things differently than other networking sites.”
Launched in 2002, Friendster has been largely maintaining its user-base in Asia, but it has long been suffering stagnation in the United States.
