Increasing Cost of Cigarettes Reduces the Number of Young SmokersA recent study conducted by the researchers from Hong Kong University has claimed that the increasing cost of cigarettes has dramatically reduced the number of young smokers.

The rise in the cigarette prices was announced after a 50% increase in tobacco tax in 2009. Most of the tobacco companies are changing their marketing strategy to increase their sales. Tobacco companies have targeted 18-24 years old youngsters and want to attract them with their new addictive products.

There are adequate warning labels on the tobacco products regarding the possible hazards of tobacco smoking even then the youngsters choose them. Excess of smoking could lead to lung cancer, emphysema, mouth cancer and birth defects.

Experts believe that it’s not about lack of knowledge that people consume these tobacco products but they are addicted to them. Concerned authorities are required to deal with the problem of addiction so that the young generation could be saved from these health complications.

Besides cigarette, smoking hookah has also become a trend among the young people. They often visit hookah bars and cafes which lure them with different hookah flavors such as mint, orange or chocolate.
