Pharmac Funds New Epilepsy Treatment

Pharmac Funds New Epilepsy TreatmentIt's good news for people battling with epilepsy across the world. As per reports, almost 400 people suffering from epilepsy will be able to get access to a novel treatment, Lacosamide, in the next three years starting from Sunday.

With the news of Government' drug firm Pharmac coming forward to fund the umbrella programme costing $4.8 million over 5 years, hitting the corners of the society, a wave of hope can be seen in people to get relief from the scar of epilepsy.

Apparently, Lacosamide will be given to all those people who have not been able to get any benefit from the existing therapies and further, to those who have been badly affected with other treatments.

Responding to the news, Pharmac Medical Director, Peter Moodie claimed, "This funding decision will add to the range of funded treatments available, which will help people who have already tried other treatments and have found that they haven't worked for them".

Moreover, all those medical practitioners who want to provide the benefit of Lacosamide to their suffering patients will have to get permission from Pharmac so as to channelize the funded treatment to the needy sections of the world.
