Recently, a man named John Richardson was charged for stealing a 99-cent hot dog after he picked up the snack and ate it while shopping in a grocery store in Washington and forgot to pay for it when he got to the checkout.
The store manager had to call the police after the confrontation but later he was cleared of the theft charge as the jurors took only 5 minutes to reach the verdict.
Store officials denied to say anything after Richardson refused a deal to pay a $200 penalty and had the charge dropped.
In an official statement, Richardson said that he spent $28 at Mitchell's IGA in Cheney in December but forgot to pay for the 99-cent hot dog he ate while shopping.
Other witnesses on the spot also confirmed that Richardson offered to pay for the sausage after being confronted by the manager outside the store but the payment was refused and police were called.
Juror Patrick Reeves said, "From all the testimony, you'd have to be an idiot to not realize that the guy simply forgot. It took the jury about five minutes to come to a verdict".
