Two Romanian men, aged 56 and 41, have been arrested over suspicions of their involvement in a case concerning card skimming from ATMs located across Southeast Queensland, and they appeared in court yesterday. The arrest was made on Christmas Eve.
On Thursday, the men were spotted "acting suspiciously" near an ATM situated in Caboolture.
Acting quickly on a tip off provided by a bank customers, the local police arrested one of the men in Caboolture, and the other man was later intercepted in Brisbane, as he started to head south in a taxi from Caboolture.
It has been speculated that the man offered a taxi driver $250 to take hum to Robina, and the police have seized over $10,000 from the two accused, and one of them is believed to be staying in the country illegally after his visa expired.
A Robina residence was then raided by the police fraud and corporate crime investigation unit, responsible for running Operation Hotel Sweeper into card skimming, and discovered ATM cards, computers and other devices which were allegedly used for skimming offenses.
The men will now remain in custody and appear in court once again on January 13.
