"Smuggle Truck," the video game that was recently blasted by Los Angeles-based Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights, has been rejected by the Apple App Store.
The controversial game allows players to drive a through a desert border in an attempt to smuggle people unlawfully into the United States.
Developer Alex Schwartz of Boston-based Owlchemy Labs confirmed the rejection, but he did not provide details on the rejection. However, he said it was content related.
Earlier, Jorge-Mario Cabrera, spokesperson for Los Angeles-based Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights criticized the iOS game, saying “This s game mocks the human tragedy that represents undocumented migration. Dying at the border is not a game.”
The game has been rejected by the Apple App Store, but according to a story published by USA Today, it can still be downloaded on Macs and PCs, and includes a "legal mode" that depicts immigrants sitting in a waiting room for two decades.
While “Smuggle Truck” involves illegal immigration, "Snuggle Truck" is all about rescuing abandoned animals from a hostile wilderness. The Apple App Store is offering “Snuggle Truck” for $2.99 for the iPad and $1.99 for the iPhone.
