Post-Christmas sales blocked the High Streets across Britain, as two big stores introduced post-Christmas sales.
John Lewis and Marks & Spencer stores stayed shut, with both offering online discounting for several days. Its online sales made a record on first three days with sales up 23% on last year.
Market data firm Experian said shopper numbers were up 18.5% on Boxing Day.
2,500 people entered through the doors of Marks & Spencer store in first 20 minutes of store opening.
Tim Denison, Director at Synovate said, "The week immediately following Christmas has increasingly become a key trading week of the year, when people shop primarily for themselves, rather than for others. It has become as busy as the final full week before Christmas, and this year may go one stage further”.
Some major findings were that John Lewis’ online clearance sales figures was “One order every second”, and that retailers had peak online sales on Christmas Day between 3pm-4pm.
