The electric grid operator of Texas has appealed the urged transmission and distribution companies to thoroughly inspect their equipments for drought-related residue which may disturb the power supply. The Electric Reliability Council of Texas has advised these companies to ensure maintenance of their equipments in case they have some problems.
The transmission and distribution companies supply power to Texas City refineries and some parts of Galveston. Nearly 12,000 customers of Galveston lost power this week because of short-circuits in equipment owned and operated by CenterPoint Energy.
These residues may include salt, dust and other particles or remains that rain normally washes away and accumulates at some place or object. These remains, if accumulated in the power equipments can cause short-circuit.
Last Monday night, a case of short-circuit due to similar reasons was reported from a equipment owned by Texas New Mexico Power, which supplies power to Texas City's major petrochemical and refinery complex. It may take some time for the power and energy companies to normally resume their operations after the natural calamity.
Meanwhile, all school of Texas has been closed because of the threats.
