Kazuo Hirai, executive deputy president at Sony Corp. that is being lambasted for keeping the PlayStation Network breach under wraps, will hold a press conference in Tokyo at 2 p. m. on Sunday to discuss the security breach.
It is going to be the first time when a senior executive is going to address issues surrounding the PSN security breach.
The hacking attack on PSN was discovered by Sony on 19th of April, which led to shut down of the online videogame service. But, the company did not notify any of its customers regarding the data breach until 26th of April.
The hack left as many as 77 million users vulnerable to the breach. Sony admitted that the hackers stole a considerable amount of personal data, including customers’ names, addresses, birth dates and credit card numbers and purchase history.
Meanwhile, in the US, Congressional subcommittee on commerce, manufacturing and trade has written a letter to Kazuo Hirai, asking him to explain why the company did not inform customers of the breach, and how it would prevent any potential breach in the future.
Shares in Sony slipped 3.2 per cent to 2,291 Yen yesterday in the morning trading on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
