Former US President, Bill Clinton said that the Supreme Court could rule the ‘individual mandate’ in the health care reform law but the whole bill will remain intact.
The Affordable Care Act, popularly known as Obamacare was signed by US President, Barack Obama in March, last year. The law requires all the Americans to buy health insurance. The act also directs the states to set up exchanges through which people can shop for affordable coverage. The law was opposed by most of the citizens of the country and many federal judges.
Under the act, the states cannot force insurers to take up a policy which has some special features or coverage but it must cover normal medical needs. The states of the country are required to comply with the federal health reform act and put an insurance exchange in place until 2014.
Experts believe that some serious changes are required to be made in the law but the government has not taken any step as of now. The health care bill claims to reduce the cost of health care but its implementation will actually increase the cost.
