The Federal government has approved the funding for Albury's Cancer Centre. The announcement was made by the Federal Minister for Regional Australia, Simon Crean on ABC television's Q and A program, in Albury. The federal government will provide a funding of $65 million dollar in next week's Federal Budget.
The integrated cancer treatment centre would be of great help for the people of Albury region as they will not have to travel to Melbourne.
The Director of the Board of Albury Wodonga Health, Vic Issell said that the centre will make a difference to the region. Many people have raised their voices to support the establishment of centre and finally their appeal has been heard.
Mr. Crean said that centre will be managed by the Albury Wodonga Health and built at Albury Base.
Meanwhile, Albury and Wodonga regions are facing the problems of waste management. A number of measures are adopted by their respective local councils but the problem has not been solved yet. The councils are planning to set up a third green waste bin service in the regions in addition to the existing waste collection services, after July this year.
