The Department of Health (DoH) has appointed a few of its hospitals to offer free cervical cancer screening activities to figure out the month as cervical cancer awareness month.
The Health Secretary, Enrique Ona, has claimed that the department is enthusiastic for the commencement of the event that is aimed to offer free cervical cancer screening to the women lying in the age group of 30 to 45 through its 58 hospitals across the nation.
The cervical cancer is one of the cancers that are affecting a large number of women worldwide followed by the breast cancer. In 2010, the health agencies had revealed that number of breast cancers is at 12,262 with alarming number of 1,984 cervix cancer cases across the country.
The terrible disease is caused by the human papilloma virus, which is present in women as well as in men, sexually transfers the infection and also causes cancer of the vulva, vagina, anus, head and neck cancers and genital warts.
The Bivalent vaccine provides protection against two strains of human papilloma virus, HPV 16 and 18 whereas the Quadrivalent vaccine is capable enough to fight with four types of human papilloma virus, HPV 6, 11, 16 and 18. The vaccines are available for women from the age of 9 or above.
