A Florida tomato grower has started recalling its grape tomatoes since 29 after a sample being tested positive for salmonella, which can cause serious fatal infections especially in children, elders and ones with weak immune systems.
Though fortunately, no illnesses had been reported yet, according to the statement by Six L's Packing Company Inc. but the Immokalee, Fla.-based Company has also marked the markets about the recalled product, which was actually packed on April 11 under the Cherry Berry lot code DW-H in clam shells or 20-pound cardboard containers.
The company has also confirmed that they have distributed the tomatoes to California, North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama, Florida, New Jersey, New York, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Georgia, as well as Canada to fasten the results of recalling process.
U. S. Department of Agriculture inspector at a New York distributor found the contamination in the tomatoes that were originated from a farm in Estero, Fla.
Taylor Farms Pacific Inc. also recalled the contaminated products on Monday and said that the tomatoes were also used in deli salads made by Tracy and were sold in plastic trays at deli counters in Albertsons, Raley's, Safeway, Savemart, Sam's Club and Walmart stores across the West and some Midwestern states.
Number of the affected areas is really big including states Arizona, Oregon, California, Nevada, Washington, New Mexico, Idaho, Montana, Nebraska, South Dakota, Wyoming, Colorado and Utah.
All the customers are being requested by the companies to return the recalled products to the place of purchase for a refund.
