Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) used the Embedded Systems Conference to introduce the Radeon E6760- a new embedded GPU that support Microsoft's DirectX 11 and the OpenCL standard and is capable of driving up to six displays simultaneously.
The company claims that the Radeon E6760 GPU ensures better business economics through product stability and long lifecycle management.
Director Richard Jaenicke, of Embedded Client Business at AMD, said, “Embedded system designers faced with power and density constraints now have a solution that delivers the advanced 3D graphics and multimedia features they require in this performance-driven market.”
The new GPU is compatible with Universal Video Decoder (UVD) 3. Four displays can be driven using DisplayPort 1.1, while six displays can be driven using DisplayPort 1.2. In addition, it supports HDMI 1.3.
As per AMD’s claims, the Radeon E6760 delivers 40 per cent to 60 per cent more performance than its current high end embedded graphics E4690 part. It offers up to 576 GFLOPs, as compared with 384 for the earlier part.
The Radeon E6760 makes use of the same 40nm core in the company's mainstream desktop graphics processors.
AMD’s advancement in the GPU field is seen as a bad news for GPU maker NVIDIA, which has suffered a drop of 28 per cent in shipping volumes from a year ago.
Meanwhile, AMD is gaining ground at NVIDIA's expense. AMD enjoyed 15.4 per cent growth in GPU shipments from the last year.
