Microsoft on Tuesday next week will release a patch to fix a critical vulnerability in its Windows server software along with two other bugs in PowerPoint.
One of the two updates has been classified one as "critical," while the other as "important."
The critical update will fix vulnerabilities in Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2, as well as in the newest version- Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (SP1).
However, Windows desktop operating systems, such as Vista, Windows XP and Windows 7, are reportedly not affected.
The other bulletin will patch Office XP, Office 2003, Office 2007, Office 2004 for Mac as well as Office 2008 for Mac.
The software giant particularly called out PowerPoint as the Office application that will receive a fix. Last month, Microsoft patched three vulnerabilities in PowerPoint. The ten-year-old suite will not get security updates after July 12.
The software firm also confirmed that it would introduce a changed exploitability index on Tuesday next week. The index is a rating system which predicts the possibility of vulnerabilities' exploitation in future.
