An Outbreak of Intense Illness at Lake Louise Resort

An Outbreak of Intense Illness at Lake Louise ResortWhen Alberta Health Services was called upon by popular hotel Chateau Lake Louise and was told that many tourist along with staff members are suffering from severe vomiting, diarrhea and nausea, then upon verifying they got to know that it is the intense gastrointestinal illness that had struck around 36 people in the hotel.

Since then, a half-dozen staff of Chateau Lake Louise are off work and nearly 20 travelers have been quarantined in their rooms for last so many days.

According to Public health officials, it is most likely the highly infectious Norovirus which is the cause of this disease. Due to non availability of specimens, the same cannot be confirmed.

In this regard, Judy MacDonald, Medical Officer of Health for Calgary said, “What we can say is it’s a virus that is readily transmitted through not washing hands and contact with bathroom surfaces. It is pretty intense when its happening and a person can be ill for one, two or three days. It can come on quite suddenly”.

However, efforts have been taken to clean and sanitize the hotel.

Alberta Health services have also advised the hotel to isolate the sick travelers in separate rooms for at least 24 hours from the moment their symptoms have been discovered.
