Long queues in front of Apple stores are common whenever the Cupertino-based electronics giant has something new to offer. But, the popularity of the Apple products and their shortage can sometimes create riot-like situation.
Four people were injured and the front glass door of the Apple store in Beijing was smashed as people scuffled to grab the device. The incident took place on Saturday, a day after the iPad 2 made its Chinese debut.
According to a report published by the Beijing News, the altercation started due to incidents of queue jumping that allegedly prompted a foreign Apple employee to jump into and beat suspects of queue jumping.
The bloody altercation forced the store to shutdown its shutters on Saturday. However, new reports suggest that the store again opened its doors on Sunday.
Police officials said they interviewed the injured people and were investigating the incident.
Apple officials could not be contacted for comments on the incident.
People had started queuing up before Apple stores around 24 hours ahead of the popular tablet’s planned launch, though a number of them were scalpers who grabbed the device and sold it to pocket some profit.
